About Anne

Anne Walsh is an established, Award winning artist who has always felt at home with a pencil or brush in her hand. Coming from a family of artists, her aunt and uncle being professional artists helped foster her desire and passion to be an artist from an early age. Living in North Queensland, a large part of her childhood and teenage years were spent enjoying weekends in their family boat exploring the abundance of beaches and islands and swimming in the nearby creeks and rivers. Her love of nature and childhood memories provide a sense of nostalgia. These cherished experiences have had a deep influence and is evident in her paintings, with seascapes and water a common feature in her work. Capturing the movement and soul of the ocean and its shores is her inspiration. Whenever possible, Anne loves to get out in nature to paint. "Plein Air painting allows me to lose myself in the subject and grants me the freedom of expression."  Anne does paint a variety of subjects though, including Flowers, People and Pet Portraits and has been selected three times as a finalist in the Percival Portrait Prize.  Working with most mediums, oils are her favourite choice due to their flexibility, depth of colour and texture, allowing her the freedom of brush or palette knife. Anne has been sharing her knowledge as an art instructor for the past 14 years and exhibiting her art for over 25 years with works held in private collections throughout Australia, Canada and the United States.

"Painting for me, is like the air that we breathe. It's a necessity of the soul."
